There is a way about how things in life are paved out, and for U.K based model Saffron Taylor this was to become a high-end Model after a few side-steps, including a profession as a graphic designer, developing websites for models and photographers. This triggered her career as a model herself in 2007 when she met a photographer that encouraged her to do so with a set of test shots. This then snowballed into paid assignments as a glamour model that took a turn towards modelling latex the year after. From that point onwards, Saffron gained worldwide recognition and made her entrance into publications and media sources such as 'Playboy', 'Marquis' magazine, 'Fixe' magazine, 'Virile' magazine and others. METALLICO (Greg Burridge) from Upminster, U.K is a professional Lucha Libre wrestler and world-champion, claiming the title in 2012. METALLICO, a.k.a. 'The King Of The Scrapheap' travels the world with Lucha Britannia and its Cabaret Sinestro, performing a mix of high-flying wrestling acrobatics, horror, comedy and Neo Burlesque with a host of characters to entertain and fight Lucha Libre style! METALLICO has a 12 year background in Pro-wrestling and first got acquainted with Lucha Libre in 2001. Since then, Greg has fought in well over 700 international matches and held various titles from many promotions, the most obnoxious one being the 'golden toaster' for the company 'Sliced Bread Wrestling'! It is through the wrestling that Greg also managed to lift his skills as a Martial Artist to another platform, working as a fight director for a movie, and a lead in a Zombie Apocalypse movie called “Welcome To Essex”, set for release later this year (Halloween). MIKI SUDO – Petite Competitive Eater with a Big Appetite!

MIKI SUDO is a competitive eater from the U.S.A with a hunger for ferocious food challenges! Behind the cute looks and petite figure lurks a primal eating machine with a gut wrenching appetite and chewing speed that simply destroys other contesters time and time again! MIKI never bites off more than she can chew as no challenge is too big for her, either in size or time-wise! Some of the most impressive records she holds include the 'Big Fat Fatty', and the LBS 'Undertaker' Challenge; a plate the size of a dining table with 11, ghost sauce drizzled patty burgers and over 2 lbs of fries, downed in 53 minutes. The 'Big Fat Fatty' is the true monster and will make you shiver and shake just looking at it, build upon a 27” garlic baquette and stacked with cheeseburgers, cheese-steak, pastrami, fried eggs, bacon, jalapeno poppers, onion rings, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, chili, marinara, fries and fat sauce; she eats her way through this mountain of food in just under 33 minutes, leaving the competition far behind. Although, still incredibly new to competitive eating, Miki debuted at #07 in the rankings of Major League Eating, just 8 months after her first ever (amateur) contest. It is obvious; Miki is the new star in the world of competitive eating, but don't be surprised to see her grow out of proportion recognition-wise as her appetite and charisma stretch further than just food challenges...
MANIC MOSH also had a little chat with MIKI about food (of course), her career and competitive eating;
Miki, how did you get into competitive eating?
I'm rather adventurous-- my idea of fun includes skydiving, riding elephants, and getting lost halfway around the world. I love pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone, so I'm typically down for a challenge. Entering an eating competition was just something new I tried. I never meant to pursue it, but I discovered that I happen to be really good at it.
How long have you been doing this for?
I took on my first challenge (12lb Phozilla) on a whim in December of 2011, but I don't really consider it the beginning of my competitive eating journey because I never intended to do another challenge. The following summer, while searching for pictures from the challenge, I came across an online forum that doubted the authenticity of my victory. Almost to prove these skeptical commentators wrong, I sought another challenge (7 lb Anime Ramen) and entered my first contest (Village Pub Ribs) last summer. I won both, and it was then that I thought to myself, "Wait, I can have fun and make money... while eating? Let's do more of this!" I haven't slowed down since.
How do you keep yourself slim, knowing you have to practice for these challenges as well?
Outside of competition, I eat mostly fresh fruits, raw vegetables, and lean protein-- and while I'm not a huge fan of the gym, I stay very active and enjoy hiking. My regular diet and exercise keeps me around 125lbs, but I can definitely gain weight! Competitive eating includes a fair amount of travel, and it's not always easy to prepare healthy meals or exercise as I would at home. When I'm doing a contest per week for multiple weeks, I'm prepared to weigh in at 140lbs, and that's when I'll hit the gym. I do light weight training and resistance training with a little bit of cardio.
What do you eat on a regular day?
Today, I made a huge bowl of kale and quinoa salad (cucumber, onions, scallions, mint, soy sauce, vinegar, couple drops of sesame oil) and ate that throughout the day.
What is your favourite food?
I love avocados and dill pickles.
What is the toughest challenge, spicy, greasy or other?
While filming "STUFFED" (competitive eating show, Tasted channel on YouTube), I ate the 12lb "Big Fat Fatty" sandwich (Fat Sal's in Los Angeles), which is the toughest challenge I've completed to date. Only one other person had completed it, and the kitchen crew said that mine was actually made larger. I currently hold the record of 32 minutes.
The Lucky 13 Challenge (Salt Lake City, UT) was also extremely tough. The challenge was only about 6lbs, but it pitted me against a level of spice that I hadn't previously known. At one point, I was swallowing handfuls of habanero peppers, and it felt like my face was on fire.
What's planned for the feature and where do you see yourself in say, a year time?
This journey just started, and it's already been amazing. I've traveled to parts of the country that I might not have seen otherwise, met some amazing people, and continuously shocked myself in competition.
Within 8 months of entering my first (amateur) contest, I made my professional debut and secured the #7 spot in the rankings, and in the two qualifiers and four contests I've done since signing with Major League Eating, I've placed third twice; second once; and I've won three events outright. Only Joey Chestnut (ranked #1) and Matt Stonie (#4) have beaten me to date, and I'd like to keep it that way, over the next year and beyond.

SONS OF ICARUS – groove guzzling riff roaring Rock from the U.K.

SONS OF ICARUS are a new British HardRock unit that is bound to make it big hard and fast. The band made a flying start, bagging the Marshall Amplifiers 'Ultimate Band Contest' and landing opening slots at major music festivals such as Download and Sonisphere. In addition, SONS OF ICARUS teamed as a support-act for big names such as The Answer, Black Spiders, Orange Goblin, Rival Sons and Black Stone Cherry. Most remarkably, the band managed to accomplish all this without the backup of a major record-label which testifies to the talent and potential of this 4-piece that has been recognized at a large scale by both fans and media. In April 2011, SONS OF ICARUS independently released the “You Want It All” EP that is now also available in free, downloadable format. The material on this 4-songer just drips professionalism from start to finish, and from the power-punch production to the musical performance. SONS OF ICARUS redefine Rock as we know it, gelling 70's Hard Rock in the styles of Led Zep and very early Rush with Stoner Rock, Blues Rock and Southern Rock. The EP holds a good mix of tempos, with slower offerings in the shape of the sludge driven “Sick To The Teeth” and the chunky, moderately-paced riff pounder “You Want It All”. The groove-element is pushed forward down “Not Myself”; a super-sticky, riff-roaring up-tempo Rocker with the impressive vocalage of singer / guitarist Andy Masson pushed forward. Andy's melodic edged mid-range voice nicely balances the more downtoned, Stoner-esque guitars, and has this slight Hair Metal-ish approach a la Kingdom Come. The tempo is a bit further up with the upbeat “Can't Let Go” that has a slight hint of Audioslave in the back. The groove-element is a constant factor throughout the EP and generated by the catchiness of the riffs and the synchronisation of all three guitars that dominate the songs. SONS OF ICARUS have recorded a whole new set of songs, all ready to go in full-length CD format and scheduled for release summer 2013. It is not the band that should be lucky to be snapped up by a record label; it is the record label that should praise themselves lucky enough to sign this act for they will have a guaranteed winner in their hands!

The career of Argentina born Sabrina Sabrok has been centered around music from the very start, with a study in musical culture, followed by a period of teaching the matter as a graduate. After a few sidesteps as a model and actress, Sabrina's career catapulted to a new level with the inception of PRIMERAS IMPRESIONES; a theatrical Cyber-Punk band that got together in '96 and released its first recorded material a year later as a self-titled album, featuring the native vocals of Sabrina. From that point onwards, Sabrina's career as a musician snowballed with gigs all over Central and South-America, the United States and performing as a support act for Marilyn Manson. After another 3 independent releases, the musical-concept took a drastic turn, and intensified with elements of Metal, Industrial Goth and classic HardCore Punk being pushed forward. Simultaneously, the live-shows became more orchestrated and controversial with a strong S&M flavour to match the lyrical content of the music. In 2002 Sabrina started doing TV work and hosting, which further boosted her career and following that has meanwhile gone global with international tours, and broadcasting of her TV shows that testify to this. Martin Schiff is an American photographer from Maitland, Florida, that has been around in the scene for many years. As such, Martin has experience in many fields of photography; from Fetish and Glamour to Lingerie and Swimwear. His portfolio stretches way further than this and also includes landscapes, wildlife and underwater photography. His work varies from natural to graphic retouching to capture a certain atmosphere or theme; it is exactly these shots that stand out in originality and lighting, playing with a palette of shadows and shades with a lot of darkness all round. During the weekend of May 25 / 26, the City of London was inked red, white and blue with the 2nd edition of THE GREAT BRITISH TATTOO SHOW. At the grand location that is the 'Alexandra Palace', Body Art, Fashion and a variety of Entertainment was offered by a host of Artists, performers, models and musicians. Over 220 Tattoo-Artists from all over the world gathered here alongside merchants of all sorts, Fashion designers, Make-Up Artists,, and Alternative / Tattoo Models. Entertainment came in the shape of Lingerie and Latex Fashion shows, live-music, Roller-Derby, Classic & Custom cars display, Burlesque performers etc. THE GREAT BRITISH TATTOO SHOW 2013 was another great event with a warm atmosphere and a strong show element throughout... PHIL ZOOM – Veteran Rocker and early Sex Pistols member
The older the musician, the better the stories and that surely applies to Phil Zoom; a London based veteran Rocker that grew up jamming to Led Zep, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, met some of the greats in music without even realizing it, and also had a stint in a very early carnation of The Sex Pistols. MANIC MOSH Magazine had a chat with Phil about the old days, the passion and all the craziness, Rock On!
Phil, when did you pick up the guitar, and what were your prime influences there and then?
I started playing the guitar when I was about 15 / 16 years of age, and my main influences were a mixed bag of artists and bands; from Santana, Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton, to Otis Redding, Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Miles Davis and anything in between! These people, their lives and their music still give me inspiration to play today and they are the reason why I am still playing.
What was the first band you played in, and what style was this?
The very first band I played in was a front room / bedroom band called Stroller. We had cardboard boxes for drums, a microphone that didn’t work and two massive 4 by 12” speaker cabinets with a Hi Watt 100 amp head and a Sound City 100 amp head that did. It was f*cking great! We were the loudest band in East Acton, the three of us; we played Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Montrose and Led Zeppelin.
Have you ever released any material with your first / very early band/s
I had material recorded and released at Eddie Grant's Coach House Studio and Eddy’s Brother was the engineer. It was an Isley Brothers song called called 'Voyage to Atlantis'. I played bass, and the singer was a guy called Frankie Beverley from an American band called Maze.
You were also in a very early carnation of the Sex Pistols, how did that happen?
I first got an invite via Ronnie E. who was a friend of Glen Matlock and Wally Nightingale. He said that they needed a bass player and it was urgent, and I could play bass. So I went along to Acton rehearsal Studios. Paul Cook was on drums. I knew Paul already from school, as he was in the 6th form and I was in the 5th. He was one of the few drummers in West London who could play tight, and in time.
So, what about guitarist Steve Jones?
I can remember Glen & Wally being there, I can’t really remember Steve, although some c*nt did play a very thrashy sounding din at the time and it was f*cking disturbing. It wasn’t Glen, and it wasn’t Wally, so it might have been him.
Have you ever played a live-gig whilst you were in The Pistols?
I didn't play a gig with the band as I had quit at the beginning; they were a little disappointed with me
There's quite a few things that have never surfaced before regarding the early stages of the band and its members....
There are indeed certain things about the Pistols that have not been printed or even written about, and as I am still a “mate” of theirs, I will not tell.
So, what about Johnny's nickname 'rotten' then, as it is understood that he got this from the state of his teeth...
A few of John’s teeth may well have been rotten, but it wasn’t for that he got the name rotten. It was because he was always criticising other bands, like Siouxie and the Banshees, and ridiculing people in general. We all found out later somehow that he didn’t really want anything to do with anyone who was vaguely middle class, educated, or had certain values. Anyhow, everyone was rotten in or around that band. I was rotten too, because I couldn’t help laughing about everything that was said. John probably does not want to look back to the earlies, and I won’t blame him either. Especially when his make-up used to run down his cheek and he used to look like a “sad bastard clown” we all used to laugh about that. Ronnie used to say 'your make-up is Dave Bowie all gone wrong'.
One other thing that just came to mind; Johnny was told that the band did not want any primadonnas in it. Johnny asked, 'what's a primadonna?' Ronnie answered; 'a ballet dancer'. Johnny said; 'we're not doing f*cking ballet are we?' 'We're doing Rock 'n’ Roll'. Ronnie said; 'you’re not even doing that, Rock 'n' Roll has a set form, what you’re doing is shit!' We all laughed and at that Johnny lit up a spliff. The Pistols were on their way (without me) ho ho ho.
So, how did you feel about leaving the band?
I should not have left really, but I felt that I would somehow end up on heavy drugs and probably die as a result of taking them.
So, what happened afterwards, and how did you continue your musical path?
After The Pistols, I joined a Reggae band, a Soul Band, a Heavy Rock band and a New Wave band. Played some gigs around town, including one up in Huddersfield; I remember that well as that was where my first groupie followed me home all the way to London!
I also played at the Lyceum Ballroom in the support band Zabandis for Heat Waves' first U.K gig, it was awesome! Rod Temperton playing Hammond Organ; he was the top. pop writer for a decade, long before Stock, Aitken & Waterman.
This was the 70’s Disco fever time, but Reggae was also emerging. Zabandis was a Reggae band that featured 3 brothers from St. Lucia. They could play just like The Wailers. In fact they backed just about every top Reggae artist to date, and I was privileged to play with them on several occasions. It was Joe Charles or 'Tunga' as he is known today that gave me inspiration to be dedicated to playing guitar. You see, Joe was an old-school player. He would sit with his instrument all day, every day and play .Reminiscent of those old Blues men from the southern states of America. This guy could f*cking play man, I mean really f*cking play, like rass play!Joe would get me to listen to Ronnie Wood and say; 'Phil, listen to what Ronnie is doing, just listen Phil, listen first then try'. Then he would show me what Ronnie was doing on guitar. Sometimes he would show me note by note and explain at the same time. Wild horses could not drag Joe away from his instrument. I believe Tunga still plays in a top Reggae band called Misty In Roots.
Talking about Reggae, what's the story with Bob Marley?
When Bob Marley came over to England one time in the 70’s, he came to the brothers' house in Becklow Road, Shepherds Bush. We were jamming our tune called 'Heatwave'. Joe wrote it because of the heatwave that we were having that summer. I did not know the guy who was introduced to me before. Somebody just said, 'Phil, meet Bob', and I said, 'hi Bob'. I was jamming our tune 'Heatwave' and he was smoking a spliff. He was diggin' our music and slightly shaking his head like in a trance. Bob wore a red, green and gold tea cosy hat and had a wonderful healthy tan complexion. I didn’t really think that he had anything to do with the music business. I was 18/19 at the time. He did not sing with us at that time, I thought he was just a guy who came down to smoke spliff and listen to our music. I didn’t know that he was well known or becoming very famous. He was just plain Bob to me.
If you reflect back, has it been good overall?
The London music scene was very good in those days. I used to go out to see Wilco Johnson's band Dr. Feelgood at the Roundhouse, and Ian Dury And The Blockheads. And, I was very lucky cos I worked as the 'Saturday boy' in this well known music store by Maurice Plaquet from the age of 16 to 18 and a half. There, I met somebody called Paul but I didn’t realise his last name was McCartney. He would say to me; 'tell Maurice that I’ve got the Ballet tickets'. Denny Laine (from the Moody Blues, and later Wings with Paul McCartney) would give this despondent look towards me, as someone would say, 'look Phil, it's Denny'. I would rack my brains to think who’s he? It was not after they had left the shop that it would all click. 'Oh f*ck', I could have gotten his autograph but didn’t, not quick enough, bah! These were crazy days and it was a bit scary meeting and knowing all these characters. There is one problem though, I believe that they all, with the exception of Andy Summers (The Police) think that I am a character; why is it that everyone used to call me 'Biffo'?
Anyway, it was by meeting all these guys, my big brothers in music, that I was able to learn how to play and learn about the music business. Today I’m 54; tomorrow I might not be here. So it’s been great jamming with you.
