SOPHIE REBECCA – Pole Performer and Artiste
U.K based Artiste Sophie started ballet school at the age of 2 and stayed there for 10 years training and performing in their yearly shows both internally and externally. Following this she started her aerial career when she began trampolining at a national level. After a back injury at 14 she stopped training so much and started teaching others. ”I wasn't able to compete any more so kept my coaching going whilst I started on the road to recovery after my injury”. When Sophie hit 18, she decided that she would keep dancing and found herself in the ceiling cages at 'Cyberdog' for a brief stint. “Following this, I booked shows at all the Alternative venues I could find, from 'AntiChrist' and 'Synthetic Egg' to 'Devil's Night' in Stoke; I danced wherever I could, and I added angle grinding and firebreathing to my repertoire but found most of my gigs were in cages and on podiums. The one pole performance I was booked for threw me in at the deep end; I had to learn to use a pole on a basic level QUICK!” She called upon Alexe Woods - who owns the 'London Academy Of Pole Dancing' - who gave her a private session and told her she was a natural. “After the show, I was covered in cuts and bruises and swore never to touch a pole again! But once I had moved to Kent I changed my mind. I didn't want to be defeated. So, I found a pole school opposite where I was living and started training there from the day it opened a month or two later. To this day, years later, I still teach and train at 'Bewitched Pole Fitness' in Kent”. Sophie has competed and performed with the owner of the company as a doubles pair many times over the last 3 years. “I'm hoping to branch out into performing more as an individual both with pole and hoop. Let's see what this year continues to bring me!”

JAMES HICKS 'The Bearded Barber'
web: http://beardedbarber.com/
American Barber James Hicks, known as 'The Bearded Barber', has put himself right on the map in the ever growing world of vintage-style Barbers. Whilst serving in the United States Marine Corps, James developed a love for cutting hair; a passion that became reality after taking a few side-steps in his career that eventually led him to enrol in the Ron West Barber College. After graduating in 2012, James, who calls himself 'an old school Barber in a modern world', took the barbering world by storm, landing himself in various publications and establishing a name for his shop, the 'Hicks' Barbershop & Shave Parlor' in Dayton, Ohio. James provides a range of classic-style shaves and trims with the use of scissors for light trimming and clippers for shaping. When it comes to the traditional shave, the angle of the blade means everything according to James and being a purveyor of the wet shave, the main advantage over a dry shave is as he explains “the ability to protect the skin with soaps and cremes”, with a pre-shave oil as a recommendation to the routine. James tailors all his trims and shaves to the appearance of the client, his specialist technique being 'Skin Tight Fades'; a type of cut that is the staple in the Marine Corps. And here's a tip from James for new beardies and beard grooming in general; “Be patient; get past that first month, it will get easier. Use a good beard oil. I have my own scent with 'Dream Beard, The Bearded Barber.' Wash and condition, I use an anti-dandruff shampoo, and Biotin will help”.

OLD KENT ROAD TO THE WORLD
A journalistic journey into the South London music scene
In his first book (due to be launched in 2017), south London journalist, Chris Henniker takes a journey undertaken by many south London musicians, tracing their steps from 'Old Kent Road To The World'. As he undertakes the perilous journey and adventure of a lifetime, he uncovers a hidden world behind the music, of magick, danger, drugs, and the burning and desire to escape the parochialism of south London. A place where great art flourishes amidst deprivation, where The Fat White Family invites you to Touch The Leather and The Nova Twins go supernova in your ears with their mix of punk, Dubstep and R&B, you can't miss what's coming down the rock'n'roll superhighway masquerading as an arterial road into Kent. As he takes down this disguise, Henniker unveils the hidden forces that shape the bands, tunes and tales we so love. From the record label that pushed Klaxons to the public consciousness to the Enochian magick that shaped the work of Death In June, Deadcuts and Klaxons, he shows there is serious ju-ju south of the Thames. He unveils south London's contradictory nature of being multicultural and parochial in mindset through interviews with musicians, bands, DJs, broadcasters, record label owners and journalists to uncover their stories. Famous contributors include Charles Hayward of This Heat, and Mark Perry of Sniffing Glue and Alternative TV fame. If you want to hear more about his tale and the book it's going in, or you have a tale of rock'n'roll derring do from south London, go to his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ChrisHennikePublicist/ for press enquirers or contributions, Chris can be contacted by phone, (07702)009745, or via email: chris.henniker@icloud.com

PHEXXIE BIZARRE – U.K Alternative / Goth Model
web: www.facebook.com/phexxie.b
Phexxie Bizarre is a U.K Alternative / Goth Model who started modelling on and off around college work some ten years ago. She started by helping friends in college with their photography work and it kind of spiralled from there. Phexxie's career took a more professional approach after she left university but her intentions never changed; “Modelling has always been about expression and creativity for me, rather than fame and adoration”. “These days, I pretty much shoot whatever ideas come into my head! I've been lucky enough to be published multiple times within the U.K and internationally and worked alongside some amazing people, it's all very humbling for a normal, everyday nerdy girl like me”. Phexxie is currently represented by Rogue Model Management and can be booked through them or privately via her Facebook page (see link above). “My first love will always be art and illustration - you can see my art page here although it's in dire need of an update: https://www.facebook.com/LauraAkoyaArt “.I have a lot of plans for this side of my creative life, but like many creative types I'm always trying to do too many things at once!. If I'm not shooting or drawing, you'll probably find me gaming - which I've been doing very regularly since I was six when the PS4/XBOXOne era was still a long way off!” “Some of the bands I like listening to include Angels If Liberty, Merciful Nuns, Bauhaus, Pink Turns Blue etc, and and I've found I really like New Retro Wave too, artists such as Mega Drive, Dance Of The Dead and Kavinsky

TAYBLES –Home of The Cassette Tape Coffee Table
web:www.taybles.com
U.S.A based TAYBLES is a collaboration of three Artists / entrepreneurs - Taylor Calmus, Zach Calmus and Justin Nanfelt - that materialized in the form of a cassette shaped coffee table, inspired by home-made mix tapes, Pop-Art and modern design. Their intent to create 'a product that would not only be a functional piece of furniture but also a nostalgic piece of art' has come off the ground really well with orders shipped as far abroad as London and Tel Aviv, which is a fast-forward achievement since the prototype was built; 'The first one was built out of plywood with a limited amount of tools in a shop the size of a closet; it was pretty cool but it was nothing like the ones we sell today' Taylor explains. Over the course of a year, the design was perfected to what it is now. All cassette tables are hand crafted with birch hardwood and a vinyl label that is sealed with an epoxy coating, and fitted with lights and stainless steel cup holders. The tape run is fitted with hinges and magnetic clasp to create a handy storage for remotes and magazines. The tables come in a variety of sizes and 'playing times' in the classic; 30, 60 or 90 minutes and can be tailored by stain colour, label design and leg type. The cassette tape has gained popularity as a cult retro-object and Taybles have tuned in on the demand for all things retro-cool! Taybles works by the principle of 'paying to forward' with part of their proceedings being donated to charity. Besides building cool coffee tables, Taylor and Justin also do a lot of stencil graffiti art (on cassette tapes) under the name of 214 GRAFFITI with work being featured at various events and galleries.

NEA DUNE – Professional Model, Trained Dancer and Aerialist
web: www.neadune.com www.facebook.com/neadune
Croatia born Nea Dune is a full-time Model and professional dancer in sportdance (Latin American & Ballroom dances) and social dances teacher with 18 years of experience. She is also a trained Aerialist in pole dance fitness and aerial hoop / lyra since 2009, and instructor in the unique format Hardcore Pole / Aerial fitness that emphasizes strictly on Alt music such as Metal, Rock, Industrial etc. As a dancer, Nea has been a finalist of numerous competitions in both sportdance and pole dance fitness, but due to thyroid issues had to put her activities competing and performing to a halt. As a result, Nea started to focus on training others, and with success, as she produced national pole dance champions 2 years in a row. Due to an injured spine, she is focused on 'safe spine techniques' combined with contortion, getting educated with leading world experts in the field and working with top artists such as her nr.1 muse Jenyne Butterfly in Slovenia, contortionists David C. Owen in California, Pixie le Knot in London,Texan Metal-queen Alethea Austin in Croatia, world champions Anastasia Skukhtorova (Hungary) and Alesia Vazmitsel (Florida), and trained insome of the best American studios, 'Shine Las Vegas' and 'BeSpun L.A'. Notorious for perfect pointed toes and clean lines, Nea transfers the knowledge equally to her students and incorporates it into modeling. Always looking to promote pole as a sport and understanding the differences in pole styles – pole fitness (sports and acrobatics, where she teaches women and men equally) & S factor (dance designed for women to boost their confidence). “Thongs have no place in pole fitness, but are welcome in S factor and other cross-types such as exotic dance (think of Olga Koda or Eva Bembo). Pole dance is not just about the tricks, it is much deeper and personal – for some it's sporty, for others sexy or artistic” Nea concludes.

www.thelondontattooconvention.com
The London International Tattoo Convention coloured up the metropole with its 11th edition which took place over the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th September 2015 at Tobacco Dock, London. Reputed as the prime Tattoo Show around, The London International Tattoo Convention delivered a convention of epic proportions, offering a mixed pallette of entertainment and anything Tattoo related. More than 400 Tattoo Artists from all over the world traveled to London to display their skills, including names such as Phil Kyle, Xinlong Cheng, Remis Cizauskas, Piotr Taton, Michelle Myles and George Campise. The show also premiered the work of Tattoo legend Don Ed Hardy, alongside all sorts of entertainment including burlesque, fire-breathing, aerial and side-show performers, a Pin-Up competition, Tattoo contests and live-music delivered by acts such as Vince Ray & The Bonehshakers, Alabama 3, and Big Joe Bone. Alternative and Tattoo Models were also present with stalls and meet & greet allowing fans to have having their pictures taken with their favourite Model. As in previous years, there was also a marketplace with plenty of stalls; from bespoke jewellery and clothing to Tattoo Art, and just about anything Alternative or Tattoo related. Again, the 11th International London Tattoo Convention proved to be one inktastic event in many ways, from the entertainment and the ambiance to the Tattoo Artists and the ink-loving crowd that seems to grow in numbers with every edition, and for all the right reasons...

MZ SHANK – Gothic Fetish Model and Designer
web: http://www.facebook.com/ShockValueShank42
Vancouver, B.C based Mz Shank is a Gothic Fetish model and designer that reinvigorated her modelling career in 2013 with rewarding results, including a series of shoots with photographer Ira Rotenberg (Positive Body Image Photography), and a cover feature for a photographic book by Baron S. Cameron of Culture Thug Photography. “I have been told I'm a chameleon, I love to change it up”; “why look like everyone else?” I say. “I'm always rocking my dark make-up, platforms, and in your face outfits & props. Picking shoots that are out of the norm, even a bit risky which has given an edginess to my work. Still patiently, I'm awaiting my epic shock value shoot that tops the rest”.... “Hard work, as well as amazing photographers, has gotten me this far. Go big or go home is my mentality. I try to do everything it takes to get the shot I'm striving for, I'm kind of a trooper in that department. Pushing myself to overcome challenges that arise, putting in the hard work because it's worth it, all the meanwhile enjoying myself in front of the camera”. Mz Shank also has a very creative side and apart from making some of her wardrobe and props, this also finds its expression in the line of clothing and accessories for her own brand DEMONHOODZ known for its horned hoods. Stay tuned for a Mz Shank calender to start 2016 in a true Alternative fashion!

MYNXIE MONROE – The Reigning Queen Of Darkness and beyond!
web: www.mynxiemonroe.com
Mynxie is a showgirl who hates being a showgirl. This means that she has become adept in the very specialist skills of haunting, cursing, snarling at the general public, and fucking shit up. Cheesecake and sparkle make her vomit, leather and Death Metal make her horny. And campy horror B-movies make her jump for joy. As the reigning Queen of Darkness and all-round professional Goth, Mynxie has pretty much every style of act you can think of within the Alternative subgenres, from full-on Gore shows and criminally filthy Gothic stripteases, all the way through to super-camp character-based routines and flamin' hot fire acts – all dripping with satire, sex, and ridiculous amounts of mischief. She is also an internationally published Alternative Model, popping up frequently in niche publications and online zines, often clad in latex, lingerie, or nothing at all. At Mynxie Towers you can find her two baby snakes - Lugosi & Karloff - her infamous costume cupboard, and a sinful collection of incredibly fetishistic footwear.

http://www.lealeamodel.com/
Leanne Leawood is a U.K based model that took on modelling early 2014 fuelled by a passion she developed in younger years. Recently, Leanne has found a comfort and escapism in photographic erotica; “for me it is about the sensual feel in an image, 'the tease' rather than 'the show'. How I see it.... your body is a temple, you only get one, show it off, embrace what you have, colour it in or express with it in other ways; be artistically free”. Not only does Leanne love to create with her body, she is also an abstract Artist that loves painting on canvas and drawing, including a lot of line drawings that came from her hand in more recent times; ”I have been an Artist since I can remember and at the moment its accumulating space in my home but one day I hope to become a selling Artist.

SCISSOR DOLL - Published Model from Lincolnshire
web: www.facebook.com/ScissorDoll
My name is Debz, AKA Scissor Doll, and I'm an experienced Model specialising in Gothic, Burlesque, Pin-Up /vintage Glamour, Rockabilly, Fetish, body-paint and Steampunk styles. I love working with photographers who have very creative minds and can add something special to my portfolio. I am versatile, easy-going and always willing to try something new and different, whether it's a classic high-key studio shoot or something a little more surreal. I also love getting to pose with hot rods and motorcycles! I have a strong vintage look which works well when incorporated into different styles of shoots (especially with latex) to add a retro glamour slant. But, I'm not afraid to get experimental and have recently enjoyed working with several very talented body-paint artists to create some unique looks. I enjoy pushing myself to try new things and am always open to ideas that will stand out. I have body modifications such as a half sleeve tattoo on my right arm, a large tattoo on my left arm and a few on my back, hips and ankle as well as a few discreet piercings. Like Marilyn Manson said "I'm not an artist, I'm a f******* work of art!"

NIKKIITA FREESPIRIT – Professional dancer, actress and model
web: www.facebook.com/nikkiitafreespirit
Nikkiita, how long have you been modelling for?
Ive been modelling for over a year now - been a little slow recently due to work commitments but hopefully things are picking up again!
What made you take it up?
Seeing my best friend and now fellow Alternative Model Loo Loo take it up. I used to go to shoots with her and help with her hair and make up, I saw how much fun she was having and got the bug! I'm a dancer and actress so it seemed a logical step to take for me; I love being in front of a camera.
Have you had any shoots with other models?
Yes, a few actually; my first two shoots were alongside Loo Loo with Yhunksi Suarez and then a few weeks later with photographer Stuart Richards. Since then I have done a shoot with Hexxus Films and became a Hexxus Girl with Miss Rhe Rhe who was awesome fun. Got a couple more dual shoots coming up in the next few months. One with the gorgeous Bonnie Vincent and with my friend Natasha who has just caught the 'bug' from me... I love how contagious it is!
Tell us about the other photographers you have worked with...
I've done a few shoots now with Stuart Richards who has become like my adopted uncle - love that guy! He is so much fun and finds my terrible behaviour hilarious; he tries to pretend I'm a lady but we all know I'm not fooling any one! Also had a few shoots with and been a body paint model for James Hall from Laughing Orc Photography - again, ended up making great friends with him as he is a fellow geek and lover of all things Monty Python. Other shoots have been with Andy Earthorne - we had a great day on location around Lincoln Cathederal; DJS Photography I did a Flash Dance themed shoot and got to play with welding equipment - Loo Loo actually came with me on this one and took great pleasure in dumping a huge bucket of cold water on me from a great height to capture that iconic flash dance image. There have been others at all of the body painting meets I've been too as well and hopefully many more in the future!
What is your favourite type of shoot?
I love latex. I have only done one shoot in latex and I am itching to get my hands on some more. I'd love to be a sponsored model for a latex company - that would be pretty amazing! My other favourite is being a body paint model. Since I got into the world of body painting I have made so many wonderful friends, it is a proper family of incredible creative minds and some very silly senses of humour! When artist Jo Banks turned me into a Unicorn I had to get the train home; If I wasn't so sure I would get arrested and sectioned under the mental health act I would have pranced home, essentially naked, with the horn and tail still in place!
What is your favourite feature?
Definitely my bum - after my first latex shoot people would recognise my backside before they would recognise my face haha!
Is there any one you haven't worked with yet that you would like to?
Yes - Horrify Me - Rick Jones is a damn genius with a bucket of animal guts and barrel of fake blood! My fella and I are planning on having a dual zombie shoot with him soon. We are huge Walking Dead fans so that will definitely be one for the living room wall!
Other than modelling, what do you do?
I am a professional dancer and actress so I'm always seeking performance work. I've always got one project or another on the go and tend to make a lot of dance work for myself. When I'm not with a company I tend to have cleaning or bar work and I run Freedom Dance Collective and we are starting to make our own work which is very exciting!
Who are your favourite bands to listen to?
The regulars that pop up on my playlists are Slipknot, Black Stone Chery, Shinedown, Metallica, Halestorm and whole host of punk. I've recently started looking for unsigned music too because there is a huge amount of talent out there that deserves a few extra ears - My absolute favourite at the moment is a Doncaster based group called Ginger Tom Band. They have a really unique sound that is completely addictive; it's like a mix of PopRock and Punk with incredible vocal harmonies. I highly recommend you give them a listen!
Anything else you would like to add?
Yeah, if you want to book me for a shoot or dance / acting work you can find me at www.facebook.com/nikkiitafreespirit or email me at freedomdancecollective@outlook.com I've also started running studio shoot days so if you are interested in modelling for me keep your eyes on my Facebook page and the info will reach you!

THE WHITBY GOTH WEEKEND
web: www.whitbygothweekend.co.uk Since its launch in 1994, the bi-annual Whitby Goth Weekend has morphed into what is considered THE ultimate Goth / Alternative festival in the U.K. Three days packed with music and entertainment, including a Band / Artist 'Meet And Greet', a Custom Car show and a diverse palette of live performances. The 'Bizarre Bazaar' Alternative market is an integral part of the Whitby Goth Weeekend and hosts over a hundred traders, providing all sorts of gear, from Top-Hats, Corsets, Footwear and handmade Jewellery to Steampunk and Vintage Clothing. The Whitby Goth Weekend is a must for those that are Steampunk, Goth or Alternative minded, and the thousands of visitors that swamp this Yorkshire seaside town each event testify to this. From Dark and Gloomy to Futuristic Victorian; just a selection of dressing styles that come with plenty of eye popping creations that seem to come straight out of a fantasy world. The event could not have been set in a better location, as 'Vampire Town' Whitby not only acted as an inspiration to Bram Stoker's “Dracula” novel, but also was the one place that the real Count Dracula first set foot on in England! |
